STYLE GURU STYLE: Playing With Pastels

The recent runway show from alice + olivia was a modest yet spectacular one. The complements of pastel tones and neutrals and the inclusion of patterns and pops of color inspired me to incorporate these new spring trends into my look. The colors were delicate and soft, but paired with a bit of texture this collection easily made a statement. As an advocate for loose-fitting clothing, I am always trying to find new ways to include softer styles into my wardrobe. Designer Stacey Bendet brings us clear examples of how to wear these trendy colors and pair a more delicate look with bolder prints for a standout ensemble.

With this in mind, I channeled my inner Bendet. Though I typically wear a light-colored top with a darker bottom, I took a chance by putting two soft colors together. To complement my pastel purple blouse, I chose a pair of cream lace overlay shorts to tie in some texture. My long necklace added a little more pizzazz by including a pop of color as well as a unique design and shape. The bow detail on the back of my blouse created an attention grabber and my heeled sandals were a good touch to dress up my look and create an easy transition from day to night.

This spring 2015 show motivated me to be daring when it comes to wearing lighter colors together. Despite what I believed before, it can create a clean, sophisticated look as well as provide more opportunity to decorate with different accessories for a unique style every time. Using this timeless collection as my muse, I am going to make an effort to integrate this trend much more as the spring weather approaches.

Get My Look: 1. Lace overlay shorts. 2. Flowy top. 3. Brown heeled sandals.
