STYLE GURU STYLE: Plaid Is Not Just A Fad

Plaid is always a good call. Dress it up or dress it down, plaid is something that looks good on anyone and it doesn’t always have to be that casual country summer look. As seen in Proenza Schouler’s pre-fall 2015 line it can be a touch of color or add some detail to a plain more formal outfit.

Taking this runway trend and incorporating it into my own style, I chose to dress black skinny jeans with moto detail with a flowy plaid white a blue blouse. The plaid looks anything but country casual, and topped with aviators and black booties this is a versatile look ready for a summer evening or cooler summer day. Something that I love about this look is it’s overall simplicity, yet when you pay a closer look to detail you notice the mix of pattern detail. On the dark denim, there is the moto detailing on the mid thigh. Just as the patterns were mixed similar in Proenza Schouler’s collection.

I then went on to make this look more personal to me by adding in bright pink lip stick from NARS, a statement necklace and a hat. I love mixing in different types of hats with my outfits because it make a look classier without adding in anymore effort. I think it’s important when analyzing trends to think about what you are investing in before you purchase anything. If you are investing in a trend that is “here today, gone tomorrow” then maybe not spend as much as you would on a timeless piece. The good thing about plaid is that it’s always in style. Throw on a messy bun and you have a style that says anything but I hit snooze on my alarm twice.

Get My Look: 1. Black, detailed denim. 2. Plaid blouse. 3. Floppy hat.
