STYLE GURU STYLE: Pattern Mix-up

This season I fell in love with Stacey Bendet’s of alice + olivia, resort 2016 collection. Bendet is a New York City based designer who often draws inspiration from art, music and vintage fashion for her ready-to-wear brand. The collection consists of bohemian yet feminine pieces which immediately caught my eye. Although Bendet created a successful resort collection, I would wear any of the outfits to multiple occasions. I can envision this line being appropriate for traveling, a cocktail party or a night out in the city. What also drew me into this line is the various patterns and textiles that are incorporated into each look. Bendet played around with bold designs such as Paisley, vintage hemlines and fabrics, as well as neutrals and pops of bright colors.

What I look for in a piece is versatility. I prefer to purchase a few statement pieces to mix with everyday basics. Bendet really focuses on mixing fabrics and garments to create a unique yet chic ready-to-wear line. The alice + olivia resort 2016 collection inspired my night out look for the summer. I wanted to keep my outfit simple yet sophisticated with a few small accessories to enhance, but not distract from this look. I tried to play around with different materials and textures like Bendet did effortlessly. Sticking with monochrome pieces I paired a loose white top with a crocheted collar and sleeves with a pleather skater skirt. The skirt accentuates my waist, although it gives my outfit a edgier look, the lace detailing paired with my strappy, open-toed heels makes for a feminine look. To finish off this look I added gold accessories and a orange clutch for a pop of color.

Get My Look: 1. Loose crochet top. 2. Pleather skirt. 3. Orange clutch.
