STYLE GURU STYLE: Neutral by Nature

Now that the winter season is in full swing for some of you, it’s time to break out your coziest and warmest garments to flourish in the cold. Sweaters are a classic must-have that always have been, and always will be a staple for winter fashion. Having emphasis on functional and minimal winter-wear with a ‘70s vibe, my look was inspired by Filippa K’s Stockholm fall 2015 runway collection. High-neck sweaters, neutral color palettes and jewel-tone pops of color are pronounced in this collection. Hats and ankle booties are featured as well, and they just so happen to be the two favorite items in my closet.

The founders of Filippa K, Filippa Knutsson and Patrik Kihlborg, stay true to their perception of fashion, which is the need to be personal, simple and long-lasting. To honor this idea, I channeled the simplicity from the collection by wearing neutral clothing and accessories and a number of different, yet classic materials. I paired a mock neck sweater with a basic black pant. You know what they say, black goes with everything and can never go out of style. As for the accessories, I incorporated more than one shade of brown (the outfit’s base color) by using dark brown ankle-booties and a tan sun hat.

We can’t forget about what really ties everything together-jewelry! Because Filippa K’s collection did not present any jewelry at all, I took it upon myself to continue with the minimalist style. I chose a dainty crystal necklace, an uncut crystal ring, and a brown braided watch. Last but not least, I used a deep colored lipstick that resembles a garnet gemstone for that added pop of color.

My outfit includes a Lookbook Store beige mock neck sweater, a PacSun wool fedora and suede ankle-booties from Altar’d State
