STYLE GURU STYLE: Muted Palette

With the start of a new year, a new quarter and a new me (kidding on that last one), I wanted to make a positive change in my life. Like any fashion devotee knows, that often begins with one’s wardrobe. If 2015 was the year of trying out the wildest and weirdest trends out there, 2016 would be the year of keeping things balanced and, dare I say, minimal. I spend the majority of my time on Instagram, Pinterest, etc. ogling over the perfectly understated and monochrome outfits of bloggers and it-girls. How do they manage to make something as simple as black pants and a sweater look so…interesting.

Convinced that such minimal dressing was some sort of myth, I had see if I could pull it off for myself. I started with clean shapes: my go-to pair of high-waisted trousers and a slightly oversized sweatshirt. Next step was to add just the right amount of color, or rather, just the right shades. Neutrals were a must. Black, blush and beige all took center stage.

Aside from those social media outlets that I tend to serial stalk, there are certain runway labels that I come back to time and time again for my fill of beautifully understated designs. Names like The Row, Céline and Acne Studios are some of my favorites. It was this head-to-toe camel look from the Acne Studios pre-fall 2016 collection that I connected with on a spiritual level. It has all the characteristic of something classic (ankle boots, cropped trousers) while still maintaining the modern and conceptual vibe that the label is known for (shearling lining, futuristic eyewear).

Get My Look: 1. Blush toned sweater. 2 Black trousers. 3. Playful socks.
