STYLE GURU STYLE: Maxi Coat Armor

As the weather gets gloomier and chillier this time of year, I am constantly looking to be comfortable, warm, yet stylish. Haider Ackerman’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection introduced a multitude of different coat styles. One look that stuck out to me was the maxi coat. He stated, “sometimes you just want to cocoon yourself,” which is exactly what I was doing with this maxi coat.

Layering is always fun to experiment with, but sometimes the clothes start getting heavier than I am. I was able to layer this ASOS maxi coat over a Topshop turtleneck sweater to maintain the perfect temperature on this windy day. The shape and length of the maxi coat created the perfect frame for my black skinny jeans, portraying the not so subtle rips I made in them.

Both the ripped skinny jeans and maxi coat were such statement pieces, that I decided to incorporate a low nude heel to allow the statement pieces to receive the necessary attention. The nude heels matched perfectly with the maxi coat while contrasting with the black denim.

To finish the look, I thought I would incorporate a black Steve Madden backpack to defy the regular cross body bag trend. Using a backpack allowed me to channel Kylie Jenner vibes, who is known to wear maxi coats often. The backpack also allowed the maxi coat’s look to remain uninterrupted in the front, while giving the outfit some flair in the back.

Get My Look: 1. Black backpack. 2. Beige maxi coat. 3. Black ripped skinny jeans.
