STYLE GURU STYLE: Lovin' The Leather

One usually thinks of leather as being worn during the chill of fall or winter. Which is why I was so surprised browsing through the looks from Louis Vuitton’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. The collection, designed by creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière, was full of leather garments, from jackets to skirts to dresses. Louis Vuitton is helping leather break down the barrier and become acceptable for all seasons and not just in bright spring colors, but in blacks as well.

Taking inspiration from my favorite Parisian fashion house, I chose to transition one of my favorite leather jackets into spring while out running errands with one of my friends on the first beautiful day of the year. I was a little hesitant at first because I usually go to cozy light sweaters or jean jackets at the beginning of spring, but I chose to be daring and bold just like my embellished jacket.

Creating an outfit around a leather jacket can be tricky. I usually chose to keep the rest of my outfit simple so that it complements, rather than competes with my jacket. If your outfit were a meal, your jacket is the main course. I chose to pair my jacket with my favorite pair of black jeggings. I also wanted to go with a deep V-neck shirt and was frustrated when I could not find the perfect one in my closet. So, I did what any Fashionista would do: improvised! My shirt is on backwards; it is actually a jewel neckline with a wrapped back. Sometimes you have to get a little creative, but you never know what you can make out of what you already have!

Finishing off my outfit, I threw on my favorite pair of black booties, grabbed my black leather cross-body and kept my makeup simple with a pop of color at my lips. I also chose to go for an edgier hairstyle, twisting half of my hair back to the nape of my neck to show off the embellishments on my jacket.

Get My Look: 1. Any leather jacket that suits your fancy. 2. Black skinnies. 3. Ankle booties. 4. Your favorite lipstick.
