STYLE GURU STYLE: Ladylike and Leather

I love combining opposites when creating an outfit; it creates a sense of balance and makes things interesting. In today’s look, I wore an edgy black jacket with a bright-colored dress in a floral print. The Lanvin resort 2016 collection was the inspiration behind this outfit, particularly this look of the printed maxi dresses with black leather jackets. If there’s one thing the brand is known for, it’s for its choice in vibrant colors, and this collection was bursting with luxurious shades.

To make the collection wearable for everyday, I opted for a shorter length dress in a fit-and-flare shape. I love anything that cinches at the waist; it’s form-flattering for everyone! The red color gave the overall outfit some warmth and the florals added the femininity that I always like in my looks. In Lanvin’s collection, there were maxi dresses with small floral prints and larger floral prints. I chose to wear larger florals for a more ladylike vibe; miniature florals tend to have more of an artsy, vintage flair.

With the fluttery lower half of the dress, I wanted the top to be tight-fitting, so I paired it with my favorite biker jacket that fits like a glove. A black biker jacket has always been a must-have in my closet, and it’s a great basic piece that can be worn whenever you want to add some extra edge.

Gold metalware is my favorite metalware, so I was overjoyed when I saw gold accents in Lanvin’s accessories. I chose an oversized bag similar to this blue clutch in the collection, but I decided on black because I wanted the main focus of color to be the dress. I felt the snake print added another level of texture to the look. To top if all off, I wore tights with a pair of black heeled booties to give me some height.

Bold colors and prints can be so much fun to wear, and adding more neutral colors to the outfit to tone down the intensity is a way to pull it off if you’re too scared to go all-out Lanvin. Throw on a white cardigan or a camel-colored scarf to help counterbalance the bright color you’re trying to rock. You could even incorporate bright colors and prints into a look by choosing to wear them in smaller pieces or accessories. Try a printed scarf or a mini skirt that just peeks out under a longer length top. Let Lanvin inspire you!
