STYLE GURU STYLE: Hues Of Blue

I think it is safe to say that oversized, or longline coats, have been a trending outerwear piece to be rocking this winter season. Combining style, comfort and warmth, oversized coats can take any outfit to the next level. With less than a month left of winter weather, I find myself wearing my baby blue coat with every outfit imaginable.

Finding inspirations from this outfit at DKNY’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear show, I decided to recreate a similar ensemble with my own spin on it. The idea of pairing a billowy and shapeless turtleneck top with a more fitted and structured coat was something that appealed to me. The contrasting silhouettes and shapes of the two pieces take this outfit to the next level. With this in mind, I decided to pair my baby blue oversized coat with a printed turtleneck sweater, which contrasted against the more muted and darker tones found in the rest of my ensemble. Because my top fades into a dark blue, almost black color, I decided to wear my American Apparel disco pants in order to keep the continuity of the color throughout my outfit.

For accessories, I kept it very simple with a silver coin necklace and a pair of green mirror-lens sunglasses that added a splash of color to an outfit with a darker color palette. As for my shoes, I went with a sleek pair of white mule loafers. Putting on a pair of white loafers gives this look a more formal feel, making it appropriate for a nice dinner with friends.
