STYLE GURU STYLE: Fun with Florals

With winter temperatures quickly approaching, it is the last chance for us Fashionisto/as to break out our skirts and flats before we exchange them for leggings and boots. My inspiration behind this look comes from the Orla Kiely pre-fall 2016 collection. This collection combines feminine elements with bold, repetitive floral prints. The collection also plays with structure, proportions and alludes to elements of menswear due to the presence of collared items and suits. Despite the slight elements of menswear, the majority of the collection is extremely feminine thanks to the pastel and black color scheme, as well as the mod floral patterns.

If you’re not looking to do an all over floral pattern, then there a few ways you can tone down elements of Orla Kiely’s collection in order to incorporate them into your every day style. I centered my look around this green and pink abstract floral print skirt. The pattern and fullness of the skirt mimic the skirts and dresses seen in this collection. To break up this bold pattern I paired the skirt with a crisp white button-down. The twist on the button down that keeps it in alignment with Orla Kiely’s feminine theme is the embellishment on each tip of the collar. The combination of the button-down and the printed skirt keep the allusion to menswear, but the outfit still keeps an ultra feminine vibe because of the print, color and details of the pieces.

To complete this look, I paired the outfit with a pair of suede lace-up flats. While I love to put together feminine looks, I tend to stray away from wearing feminine pieces head to toe, therefore the flats add an edgy element to the outfit. To add another element of edge, I finished the look off with a forest green leather clutch.

Get My Look: 1. Floral skirt. 2. Button-down. 3. Lace-up flats.
