STYLE GURU STYLE: Florals and Chokers

Taking inspiration from Red Valentino’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection, I wanted to create an outfit that was edgy and modern, but with feminine elements. Red Valentino, Valentino’s younger line, combined elements such as chokers, leather and jumpsuits with delicate lace details, ruffles and hand embroidered flowers.

For this look I combined my favorite type of print: florals with a mainly black palette for the whole of my outfit. Then, the trendy choker to top if off. The rather thick and simple choker definitely created a whole different vibe to the outfit and contrasted well with the busy floral top. With the cap sleeves on my floral top and the a-line silhouette of my shorts, I’ve incorporated two main elements included in this collection. Both the cap sleeves and the a-line add a sense of subtle femininity to the look—something I definitely look to add in all my outfits.

Lastly, I wanted the focus of my outfit to stay on the top, and so for shoes, I opted for simple peep toe heels with a platform. The platform makes it incredible easy to walk in and the suede material of the shoe keeps with 2016 spring trends, as suede is still being kept on the runways. Not to mention, it’s one of my favorite materials.
