STYLE GURU STYLE: Fit to a T(urtleneck)

As I’ve said before, turtlenecks are everything. As per every fall or winter runway season, they made their appearance this year as well. From the catwalks of Misha Nonoo to Marni to Derek Lam, turtlenecks of all shapes and sizes graced designers’ collections. Some showcased a thinner turtleneck, others used unusual fabrics and textures, but many paired the turtlenecks with some fun outerwear.

For this outfit, my inspiration came from a combination of the three aforementioned designers. I went with a thicker, cashmere turtleneck sweater, inspired by Marni. I also got the idea to layer the turtleneck with something on top from their show. Misha Nonoo styled her turtlenecks with more fitted options, so I decided to try a fitted BCBGMAXAZRIA jacket on top. The color patterns of my outfit seem to mimic those of Derek Lam’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear. Hence, my casual work outfit turned out to be a translated combination of all three fall 2015 runway shows.

I love this outfit for its flexibility in occasion. I can wear it to work, to meet the parents, to brunch, to a presentation, to an interview and even to date night. The navy colors of the jeans and turtleneck are soft, yet elegant. The maroon red in the jacket and the bag spices up the jean sweater combo, making it a little more fun. The turtleneck keeps me warm and cozy and the fitted jacket on top complements my figure. To top it off, the booties add an edge of sexiness, all while elongating my legs. All in all, a simple outfit to throw together that is both flattering and wonderfully versatile!
