STYLE GURU STYLE: Extremely Ethereal

Hello again, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! I hope each of you had wonderful and safe holidays filled with family, friends and lots of food! I spent the remainder of my time between Christmas and New Year’s sleeping and scouring any and every sale you can think of. I did so stylishly of course, taking advice and inspiration from many of the spring runway shows. My favorite by far was the Alexander McQueen spring 2016 collection. It was so romantic and ethereal, with jaw-dropping details and fabric choices that had me salivating. The wallpaper florals, layers upon layers of ruffles and dreamy shades of cream and pink made me extremely excited to play around in my own closet.

For this outfit, I added some heavier fabric choices, as Rhode Island’s weather has been highly unpredictable as of late. I picked out this flowing assymetrical wrap skirt with a tiny yellow floral to start with. It’s got the same romantic bohemian vibes as McQueen’s stunning collection. I tucked a cropped chiffon camisole into it. This top is probably my favorite part of the outfit; the embroidered flowers and gold details are fantastic. To keep up with the upcoming spring trends, I stuck with layering neutrals over one another by adding an ivory infinity scarf, my favorite oversized sweater and blush-colored clutch. I had a lot of fun with mixing and matching all of these different textures within the same outfit. They work together well because they all fall within the same color family. Normally to finish off, I would have gone with a pair of flats, but the cold called for some cozy socks and booties instead.

I absolutely loved the ethereal feel of this collection. Whether it’s when trolling through Pinterest, Instagram or walking around campus, I’ve been seeing a lot of romantic and moody looks that have really inspired me lately. It seems like many of the current runway shows are simply extending the same tone into the upcoming season. I can’t way to see what else can be done with this trend.

Get My Look: 1. A flowing maxi skirt. 2. A cropped tank. 3. Booties! 4. An enormous scarf.
