STYLE GURU STYLE: Coordinate Sets

Coordinate sets are a trend this season that you do not want to pass up. Whether you’re looking to dress one up this summer for a wedding, or down for a casual day of shopping, they are a chic addition to your summer wardrobe. My decision to purchase a co-ord was inspired by the kate spade spring 2015 ready-to-wear runway show. The collection features bright, summery prints in different variations of coordinate sets. The playfulness of these two-pieces drew me in, and I knew it would be a summer trend I’d be sporting.

For my look, I chose a dressier coordinate set that could be worn to a formal or a night downtown with friends. I’m in love with the matching lace scallop along the bottom edge of the top and skirt. It brings out the lace overlay of the entire set, and adds an extra accent of detail to the overall look. The length of the skirt, along with its high-waist, works with the shortness of the top to create balance. Having a piece that’s too short or too long in your set can easily cause the co-ord to be top or bottom heavy. It’s important to make sure you find a coordinate set that achieves a balanced, equal look. I finished the outfit off with my favorite gold wrap bracelet and a thin gold watch. I’m also wearing my grandmother’s metallic evening purse to add some vintage detail to the look. I chose a more casual cork wedge to wear with the outfit; however nude pumps or a strappy gold sandal could work depending on the event.

I recommend finding a coordinate set that can be dressed up or down! They’re bold pieces, so don’t be afraid to go with fun fabrics, prints and colors. The great thing about these sets is that the pieces look great together, or separately paired with other items you already own! Buying a coordinate set can set you up with countless outfit combinations this summer.
