STYLE GURU STYLE: Color-Blocking

Color-blocking is definitely a trend I live by in the summer and with the last few weeks remaining I decided to create an outfit filled with different colors and patterns. I love color-blocking and to me it’s one trend that will never go out of style. The idea of mixing neutrals with vibrant colors shows your versatility and personality in the fashion world.

Taking inspiration from Gucci’s 2011 spring ready-to-wear collection, I combined colorful and unique pieces just as Gucci featured in their collection. I chose a slightly different color palette, opting to go with hues of blue, pink, gold and orange. I decided to combine this inspiration with my own style making it my own version of sleek street-style. When I decide to do a color-blocking outfit I like to pick colors and pieces that people wouldn’t normally consider. So for this outfit I chose a plain, black shirt, pink and orange cuffed pants and a light blue, chunky necklace. I really wanted to give the outfit an edge so I added a pair of suede, strappy, cheetah print heels to provide an out of the box visual appearance. This ready-to-wear collection combines a variety of colors and pieces that work together and that is exactly what I did with my outfit.

To complete the outfit I added a simple woven gold belt for a nice contrast. Unlike the models used in the collection I decided to go for minimal makeup with a nude lip and very light gold eye shadow. For my lips I combined Sepia liquid lipstick by Anastasia Beverly Hills with a touch of Gilded gloss also by Anastasia Beverly Hills. I felt that the minimal makeup was the right choice because it wouldn’t make the outfit look overpowering with too many colors.

Color-blocking will never go out of style because the amount of combinations you can do are endless. Whether it’s summer or fall color-blocking is always a great way to spice up your outfit.
