STYLE GURU STYLE: Cheerful Cherry

When I think of wearing the color red, I always think of December and the holiday season. I bought this outfit with my Christmas dinner plans in mind. Once the New Year arrived, however, I was a bit nervous to keep wearing the sweater. I thought to myself, “Are people seeing me and wondering why I look like Santa Clause? Do I look too much like a candy cane?” Then I saw Zac Posen‘s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, in which he has four cherry red looks! I’m not talking just a little red handbag or pair of heels, either; these are head to toe, fire engine red designs. His first red look was a two-piece skirt suit complete with red pumps. One is an off-the-shoulder top with flared pants. Model Coco Rocha walked in a more boxy dress with a high-low skirt. Finally, he presented a jaw-dropping, curve-hugging gown that is sure to make a red carpet appearance at some point. It’s strapless, flares at the knee, reaches all the way down to the floor and is overall just drop-dead gorgeous.

I could not believe that this color was so popular for the spring of 2015, and Zac Posen’s runway show inspired me to just go for it and not be nervous about wearing a brighter color during this time of year. I decided this color spoke for itself, so I combined it with a black leather mini skirt and tons of black accessoriestights, gloves, sunglasses, riding boots, a leather purse and a knit headband. This look made me feel like a true diva!

So instead of just bringing out the pastels this spring, do yourself a favor and pick a stand-out red piece to add to your wardrobe! It’s sure to be unexpected and right on trend.
