STYLE GURU STYLE: Casually Making a Statement

When styling an outfit for the day, I strive to incorporate one interesting piece into my look, whether that be a colorful shoe, a chunky necklace, or in today’s case, a bold patterned pant. Even the most casual outfit can be drastically elevated by a great statement piece.

For this look, I took inspiration from the pre-fall 2016 Giambattista Valli runway show. This beautiful collection showcases a wide range of pieces, including floor length dresses, A-line skirts, structured blazers and a mix of flare and cropped pants. Each look portrays a high level of femininity with the incorporation of ruffles, embroidery and blush tones.

While these runway looks are far from what I would define as “casual,” it’s totally possible to transition the trends seen on the runway into simpler looks that fit your personal style. I was most inspired by Giambattista Valli’s powerful pant suits and bold prints. For my look, I pulled a pair of cropped trousers with a geometric print from my closet. I paired the pants with a basic V-neck and relaxed jean jacket to keep the look casual and comfortable. By sticking to solids and softer fabrics, the boldly printed pants remain the focal point of the outfit. I finished the look off with black accessories, including a small cross-body bag (again, super casual and practical) and espadrille wedges.

What I love most about this look is that it perfectly represents my style. It’s easy and comfortable, yet still put together with the help of a strong statement piece.

Get My Look: 1. A statement pant (another great option). 2. Basic V-neck. 3. Jean jacket. 4. Espadrille wedges. 5. Cross-body bag.
