STYLE GURU STYLE: Bohemian-Chic

Chloé has mastered a skill I admire in both people and fashion labels: reliability. I consistently love their new collections, and they always stay true to their ‘look’ while still finding the creativity and courage to try new designs. In Chloé’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear show, I was drawn in by the warm colors, bold patterns, layers and feminine versus masculine outlines. Vintage elements like neckties and snakeskin dresses mesh seamlessly with modernity, and make daring statements while still being wearable. In this look I have tried to capture some of my favorite elements from their show while still holding true to my own style.

Right away, I had a problem with trying to mirror their look. My hair is not the long wavy hair styled for the Chloé models. However I am a firm believer that a great hat can had bring any outfit from “meh” to “marvelous”, so I threw on a warm-toned floppy hat to cover up my lack of locks. This hat was an impulse buy turned closet staple that seems to go with everything. Sometimes bold colors are the most reliable neutrals!

Confession: I have a love affair with accessories. My jewelry stand is a haven for all kinds of shiny bits and bobs, and I try to simultaneously wear as many pieces at possible without becoming Professor Trelawney. To me, a classic Chloé ‘boho yet chic’ look has to have lots of layers and accessories so I think the large earrings, chunky ring, and hat are all a must. I don’t recommend the earrings for much movement or proximity to small children, but I love the statement they make peaking out from the hat brim.

Drawing from Chloé’s vintage vibes, I accessorized with a ring worn by many Brovelli hands and purchased many years ago by my great grandmother. Another well loved piece in this look is the brown leather cross-body purse. A vintage Coach purse that I stole from my mom’s closet, it still contains gum wrappers, business cards, and hair ties that haven’t seen the light of day since the late ’80s. A classic leather purse should be a staple in everyone’s closet, and clearly never goes out of style.

Confession #2: The dress is cute and all, but I was completely sold when I saw the price tag in the Anthropologie sale section. You had me at “40 percent off already reduced items.”

The warm tones in the dress, hat, leather purse and jewelry all sync up with the Chloé show, and the bold pattern in the skirt create a similar vintage vibe to the collection. While imitation may be the highest form of flattery, at the end of the day we should remember your roots and never take ourselves too seriously! This look is a mix of classic and hippie and stays true to my boho style history, but has personal details that travel back in time and make it special.

Get my look:

1. Multicolored fringe earrings: 2. Classic leather purse 3. Maroon hat
