STYLE GURU STYLE: Beauty in Basic

Monochrome, or the fancy word for black and white, has been trendy for the past two years and it seems that it won’t fade out any time soon. And of course, I really love this combination because it gives me freedom and versatility. It goes without saying that most of my closet space is saturated with blacks and whites. For me, the image of white relates to snow, while the absorption of black gives me a solid backdrop. So today I want to show you guys a bit of my monochromatic style with a pop of color.

Taking inspiration from the Bottega Veneta fall/winter collection 2015-2016, I pulled together a look that is similar to his visual representation. I chose a short sleeved, collared, polka-dot top and I paired it with a simple, black, above the knee, bob skirt. With such a modest collar, I accented the look with a basic black tattoo choker along with a bright pastel pink Charles & Keith handbag.

While creating this look, I noticed that a skirt would be more suitable because of its easy, flowy style. While taking liberty with Veneta’s look, I wanted to keep the theme simple and functional, that is why I chose a black romper skirt which has some heat-setting finish on both sides.

And with this winter palette, I wanted to avoid too much skin exposure due to the cold climate. To top this look off, I added black tights and a pair of sturdy Timberland Boots. Not only will this outfit makes a person feel feminine, it can also give an individual comfort and functionality.

Not shown in this picture, a black umbrella would be a safe choice for the rainy season or even a clear umbrella with a pop of color to make it more lively.

Get My Look: 1. Black tights. 2. Heart shaped tattoo choker. 3. Peter Pan collared shirt.
