STYLE GURU STYLE: Beach Bae

Everybody has that one garment that as soon as you put it on, you know you are on vacation. For me, this blue dress is just that. My family loves to travel. My parents did not lose the desire to travel off the beaten path that most lose after college. Throughout my childhood, we have visited a wide variety of locations, mostly in small rural areas by the ocean. These towns were not high fashion cities and my clothes would simply be destroyed there. Therefore, when necessity and comfort must override style, I find it is important to incorporate a few pieces you absolutely love into your travel wardrobe.

I am currently staying in a small island of Belize called Caye Caulker. Here, there are no cars so the main route of travel is via bikes and golf carts. For a day traveling around the island, I chose to wear my favorite beach dress with comfortable accessories. This dress captures the essences of the current resort trend of graphic print used in a minimalistic style. As seen on the aniimiism runway, graphic, simple patterns were used simply as a highlight to an otherwise monochrome outfit. This trend allows those who avoid bright, daring looks to still embrace a fun pattern in a simple way.

In this look, I wore my favorite blue dress that has simple blue and white pattern that screams the beach. Coupled with wide-brimmed sunglasses and simple sneakers, I created an outfit that was able to go from the beach to biking around the island. In this runway show, the models had no accessories and wore heels. To adjust the look to better suit a traveler, I wore comfortable sneakers and practical sunglasses. This dress could easily be worn for a fancier occasion with sandals and a clutch.

The bottom of this dress is made of a textured fabric, creating tight little pleats. This trend of loose pleats is also seen in this runway show. Multiple pieces use texture to provide structure in a loose outfit. As the bottom of the dress is a bit textured, the dress is more flattering. Choosing garments that have a bit of texture in them helps create a more unique, special look.

After a whole day biking around the island, I still felt pretty and confident in my little blue dress. To me, that is the best part of fashion: no matter where you are or what you are doing, your outfit can elevate your mood. This outfit certainly made me feel happy all day long.

Get My Look: 1. A simple printed dress. 2. Wide sunglasses. 3. Comfy sneakers.
