STYLE GURU STYLE: Back in Black

While most people are ready to pull out flowery prints and pastels when the snow clears, some like to keep the darker colors going for a while. Diesel Black Gold is a contemporary collection by Andreas Melbostad for spring 2016. The ready-to-wear line features an array of black and white combinations–colors that are typically forgotten when spring rolls around.

I drew inspiration from this line because, admittedly, my wardrobe reveals my undying love for black and gray pieces. This collection proves that I have nothing to fear because I can carry a few of my favorite basics into spring. While some shy away from wearing dark colors in the warmer months, this collection offers edgy, rocker-chic styles that work for springtime.

To design a look that mimics the ready-to-wear line, I paired a black top featuring a lacy neckline with a pair of black skinny jeans. The lace on the top gives the edgy black some feminine qualities, matching the vibes we typically get from spring. The Diesel Black Gold collection features several see-through pieces that can be imitated by finding the right lace top.

Being all black, the look is very simple. The black kate spade bag is a staple for toting a notebook around to your spring classes. Adding a red lip gives the look a pop of color and enhances the edginess of the outfit. The lack of bright colors in the Diesel Black Gold collection heightens the edgy charm and the sheer thought of daring to wear all black when the rest of the world is looking to welcome spring with bright colors is a bold move.

So, if you’re looking to mix it up from floral prints and pastel colors this spring, try a monochromatic look that plays on darker hues. Find your pop of color by experimenting with fun lip colors or interesting jewelry. Spring is known for bright colors but who says you can’t bring a little edginess into the season?
