STYLE GURU STYLE: Baby, It’s Cold Outside

It’s official; winter is upon us. While I’m not a fan of cold weather, I am a fan of cold weather fashion. I shamelessly let myself spiral into the world of boots, scarves and sweaters.

Taking inspiration from Madewell’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I put together a warm, comfortable and chic look. Madewell’s collection features winter staples such as sweaters, scarves and hats, but the looks are not bulky or overbearing at all. The brand managed to create super stylish, fashion-forward looks while still being casual and wearable. No feathers or furs here, folks.

For my look, I started with a maroon turtleneck. Turtlenecks are very on-trend right now, and they are sure to keep you warm during the cold winter months. Not to mention, maroon is a cozy color that seems most appropriate in the winter. I paired the turtleneck with a pair of dark, fitted skinny jeans. Since I love layering, and cold weather is all about the layers, I threw on a long, flowy, dark gray cardigan. Also, I decided to wear a black and gray blanket scarf to add depth to the look. To finish, I added black booties with silver detailing. All in all, the tight fit of the jeans balances the oversized, loose fit of the cardigan and the scarf. Also, the maroon is a nice pop of color that ensures I don’t lose myself in too much gray and black.

To give my look a little something extra, I added a pair of C-shaped studded earrings and a diamond ring. I topped it all off with a berry lipstick from Rimmel London.

Given that we’re college students, it’s easy to lose ourselves in sweatpants and hoodies during the cold months, but hopefully this look inspires you to get through winter in a more fashionable way.
