STYLE GURU STYLE: ’70s Rebirth

Altuzarra’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection featured subtle and elegant nods to the ’70s paired with modern, fashion-forward silhouettes. The designer presented an exciting collection that speaks to the strong, confident and well-dressed woman all Fashionistas aspire to be. The standout pieces featured delicate lace contrasted by daring slits and thigh-high boots. Expertly tailored outerwear in smart hues from strong crimson and camel to delicate baby blue and rose pink, exhibited the designers’ strength. My favorite aspect of the collection, however, was the incorporation of fur in a variety of forms—from stoles to collars to coats. The luxurious fur calls to mind the easy, elegant spirit of the ’70s.

For this look, I wanted to capture the same easy glam of the ’70s that the Altuzarra collection evoked. I started with my own fur element—a slim gray faux fur vest. I paired the vest with a denim chambray shirt to create a more casual and effortless look. I chose a black skirt with an asymmetrical hemline to mimic the daring hems in the collection, while creating a look appropriate for a college campus. In a final nod to the ’70s, I selected brown leather open-toed lace-up booties.

For me, the most important part of any look is adding elements that reflect your own personal style. To achieve this goal, I added lots of accessories. I chose a leopard print bangle, a heart bracelet and a blue-beaded Alex and Ani bracelet to add texture. I also chose to layer necklaces in a variety of metals, one of my favorite trends. The varying lengths of the necklaces add eye-catching detail. The finishing touch to this look is the number of rings in a variety of metals and sizes to add dimension.

Get My Look: 1. Fur vest. 2. Skirt with an asymmetrical hem. 3. Open-toed booties.
