STYLE GURU STLYE: Marchesa Fairytale

It’s hard to decide what lines to take inspiration from. The runway lineups this season have been stellar, and it looks like another super stylish fall is in on its way.  However, one line that truly spoke to me was the Marchesa fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. This line featured gorgeous gowns and cocktail dresses.

Overall, the tone of the show was romantic and feminine. Flowy silhouettes with flattering draping emphasized the models fragile figures, while dramatic colors of red, black and navy blue emphasized their passion and strength. Additionally, Marchesa played with textures of lace and sheer in cooperation with floral and plaid statement patterns. No dress was better than the rest and pictures honored the gowns’ beauty and grace.

Since I am unfortunately in no need of a magnificent gown at the moment, I decided to take the aspects of this collection that I admired and incorporate them into an outfit suitable to wear around campus. The two aspects that I chose to reinvent were lace fabrics and bold plaids. When I saw this black and white plaid dress, it instantly reminded me of an older statement coat that I had in my closet. The pattern of this coat resembles the dress perfectly and is appropriate for the snowy weather on campus. Underneath the coat, I chose to sport a lace black dress. This choice reflects the lace used frequently throughout the collection. Mixing these two looks together allows for an outfit that is both bold and feminine.

Other aspects of my outfit include black leggings and a cami underneath the dress to stay warm and comfortable, as well as black leather riding boots to dress down the outfit. Since there is so much fresh white snow on campus, when the sun hits it can be blinding. So I decided to add a sassy pair of sunglasses to my outfit. Lastly, to pull it all together, I chose a bright magenta lip to add a pop of color to this otherwise monochromatic outfit.

Get My Look: 1. Bold patterned coat. 2. Feminine lace dress. 3. Sassy sunglasses.
