STYLE GURU BIO: Tegan Davis

Hello there, fashionable ones! My name is Tegan Davis and I am a freshman advertising student at the University of Florida. This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and I am ready to take on this incredible opportunity and share my findings. Gainesville is a small town in Florida, but I am ready to search for those Fashionista/os that can emulate the edge from the big cities and go beyond flip-flops and visors.

While flipping through pages of Vogue in seventh grade, something clicked for me. I always knew I wanted to end up in a creative field and the beauty that I saw in the designs of Alexander McQueen, Comme Des Garçons and several others moved me. After watching The September Issue, I was introduced to the works of Grace Coddington. How she produces artistic storylines while still creating a sellable ad for the fashion designers is inspiring, at the least. It has motivated me towards becoming a creative director of a fashion magazine. These words by Grace, “Always keep your eyes open. Keep watching, because whatever you see can inspire you,” reflect my approach to life.

I would describe my personal style as “modern fashion on a budget.” It is no secret that college can take a toll on the cash flow, so I try to find special pieces through thrift stores, consignment shops and big sales. I aim to find pieces that are unique and eclectic, melding them with simple and feminine basics. This spring, I hope to find lots of easy-breezy ‘70s and cool ‘90s inspired outfits to combat the Florida heat.

I love the idea of taking avant-garde, runway fashion and translating it to street-style. Through my camera lens, I plan to capture the great style moments that occur on the UF campus this spring, sharing them with others and making connections along the way. It will be a great experience and a chance to grow as an aspiring fashion professional. Hope to see you out there!
