STYLE GURU BIO: Sofina Bassett

Hello gorgeous people! I am back for my third semester as a Style Guru and I am so excited to be writing for CollegeFashionista again. I am a junior majoring in journalism, so writing articles and working with social media is right up my alley, not to mention the fashion aspect of it all! I’ve always had a very strong sense of personal style, and I know what I like and what I don’t when it comes to piecing together outfits for myself.

As someone who currently works in retail, my favorite question to get asked is: what would you wear with this? I have an entire section of my brain dedicated to styling outfits, I swear! Creating looks comes naturally to me and anytime I see a piece I like, my immediate reaction is thinking of ways I could wear it.

I was born and raised in Osaka, Japan, so I grew up in a city with a very diverse, unique fashion scene that was constantly changing. This definitely influenced my taste in style and helped me develop an appreciation for the well-dressed (the Japanese are always so stylish!). Just as Tom Ford said, I too, believe that dressing well is a form of good manners.

If I had to describe my personal style, the simplest way I could put it would be feminine with an edge. I love beautiful dresses and I love black. I also find that I am more drawn toward classic pieces. Look through my closet and you’ll find that I own every type of clothing in the colors nude and black. My current obsessions: adidas Superstars and bodysuits. Oh, and my gold-heeled booties. I get compliments every time I wear them!

When I’m not building my wardrobe and exploring the vast realm of fashion, you’ll probably find me taking photos of everything. Yes, I am absolutely that person who makes everyone wait before eating his or her food just so I can get the picture. My iPhone is my personal assistant, and I utilize it as much as possible with managing my social media platforms and documenting anywhere I travel. The case also doubles as a mirror, which I love. I wouldn’t go as far as to say I’m addicted to my iPhone, but I may or may not get separation anxiety if I don’t have it with me at all times.

I can’t wait to combine my love for writing and fashion and show all you Fashionistas and Fashionistos some killer outfits through my lens. Keep your eyes open for some #RAD looks this semester!
