I was around 11 years old and was absolutely transfixed. My heart skipped a beat, and I don’t think I blinked once the entire time. This was the moment I first witnessed the opening sequence of The Devil Wears Prada. The iconic New York City skyline, gorgeous interior design and exquisite clothing, all accompanied by KT Tunstall’s “Suddenly I See,” made me want this intro to go on forever.
Watching these elegant women, and a not so elegant Andy Sachs, get ready was absolutely fascinating to me. They put together these outfits that encompass everything they are, glamorous, yet independent, and hardworking at the same time. They put on their designer stilettos and walked confidently into the city streets, off to conquer the world. I wanted to be them, no, I wanted to do that—what they were doing. This was one of the many moments I’ve experienced that showed me what I was supposed to do with my life. And when you find your niche, I say never let it go.
Currently I’m on track to major in marketing at the University of Montana. Although there are few fashion opportunities in my state, I have found my place helping to run the university’s fashion blog and of course, as a Style Guru intern for CollegeFashionista. I’ve also been able to express my love of fashion through YouTube. My sister and I have a beauty, fashion and lifestyle channel called TwoYearsEightMonths, and we are actually about to hit 5,500 subscribers! Although I’m still not sure where my future is going to take me exactly, there are two things I know for sure. Number one: Fashion will be a part of it. Number two: That opening scene will always make my heart skip a beat.
