STYLE GURU BIO: Melody Chan

January 7th, 2016 at 2:00am

Hey there, my fellow fashion lovers! My name is Melody Chan and this is my first time being a Style Guru at CollegeFashionista. I am currently in my fourth year of college, though I have only been at Brooklyn College for three years. After switching back and forth between communications design and film, I finally decided to major in film with a screenwriting concentration and a minor in journalism. Needless to say, I enjoy writing.

Sometimes, I make my words come alive by creating shorts on my YouTube channel. I also love traveling to other places and capturing my experiences with a camera. But New York City will forever be my favorite place to be in. I take pride in being a New Yorker, because it means living at where the latest fashion trends are born. But I was never into fashion until my later high school years. At the time, everyone around me, especially all of my close friends were suddenly dressing up for school and looking top notch 24/7. I began to take an interest in my friends’ outfits and even photographed them.

Sooner or later, I became a bit of a shopaholic. I couldn’t help but participate in every holiday sale. Also, I couldn’t resist the urge to buy beautiful items like this gorgeous Steve Madden ankle strap sandal. In fact, I bought it in two colors, black and white. I love the simplicity of it and how it can instantly dress up one’s outfit.

However, my outfit would be incomplete without some ear candy. Being a minimalist, I’m not a big accessories person, but earrings are a must-have. I’m always on the look out for unique earrings. Although these dainty Forever 21 earrings set is very basic, it’s versatile so it goes with anything. Studs are my go-to everyday earrings because they’re timeless and not too dramatic. Sometimes, I pair them with a casual necklace like a gold triangular initial necklace.

My overall outfit is clean and simple with lighter tones. I usually opt for paler colors because it gives me a summer feeling. New York’s harsh winters can take a toll on my mood.

I can’t wait to transition from heavy clothes to light and airy clothes with you guys. I’m anxiously anticipating for the New Year to come, because I know there will be a bunch of good stuff in store not only for me, but for you as well. Thank you for stopping by!
