STYLE GURU BIO: Megan Peterson

Hey pretty people! I am so excited to begin my journey as a Style Guru intern with CollegeFashionista. I’m not going to lie, I always check out the outfits of the guys and gals I pass on my way to class. Now I’ll be armed with a camera, a mission and an explanation at the ready in case somebody asks why I’m staring. Look out, world!

My passion for style and all things fashion stemmed from my private school days. From kindergarten to eighth grade, I was forced to attend school in khakis, tennis shoes, a clunky belt and -wait for it- my big brother’s hand-me-down polo shirts. Long story short: I looked like a boy for the better half of nine years.

The uniform days caused me to appreciate the art of dress. I love fashion because it’s about self-expression, creativity, power and spunk. It’s hard to sum up my personal style in a single phrase. I might be all out feminine in a floral dress and tights on Tuesday and rocking dark skinny jeans and a graphic tee on Wednesday. I consider myself a necklace fanatic and am inclined to wear heels in most situations (no pun intended).

In this look, I decided to embrace the mild winter by dressing up an oxblood turtleneck. Instead of pairing it with high-waisted jeans, I decided to bring some rock n’ roll into the mix with a leather mini skirt and sheer tights. Studded leather booties give the outfit a city chic feel. To top things off, I threw on some cat eye sunglasses and chunky rings to add a pinch of drama to the ensemble.

I’m looking forward to exploring the latest trends on campus with ya’ll this spring. Life’s too short to dress inside the lines. So break the rules, take risks and stay RAD, Fashionistas!
