STYLE GURU BIO: Kelsey Baska

Hi! My name is Kelsey and this is my fifth semester writing for CollegeFashionista. This fall I took a break and switched over the social media side as an intern but this semester I’ll be doing both! I’m currently a rising senior at the University of Kansas. I am majoring in journalism with an emphasis on strategic communications and a minor in sociology. After this spring semester, I have one more year until I graduate from this wonderful place. I love being a Jayhawk and I am so happy to finally be here after completing my associate’s degree at Johnson County Community College.

Currently, I would describe my personal style as industrial bohemian. I appreciate classic silhouettes and minimalistic pieces and I like embellishing outfits with unique jewelry and simplistic accessories. My mom is probably really proud of me and my new adult wardrobe, but everyone has to go through the whole combat boots and crop top stage of their lives at some point. Right meow, I am seriously obsessing over anything that slightly resembles a shawl or poncho. It’s basically a fashionable and socially acceptable way to wear a blanket out in public and it’s majestic. Oversized sweaters are also a favorite of mine during the fall and winter because they are so effortless. You can throw them on over a pair of jeans or leggings, add a scarf and a bag, and you’re good to go. Turtlenecks have also been a go-to of mine recently; Drake may or may not have inspired me. As for makeup, I’ve been wearing chestnut, rosy colored lipstick instead of the nude color I normally gravitate towards. I think it looks more natural and the color is so pretty, but I obviously made the change because of Kylie Jenner. Hate on the Kardashians all you want, but their makeup is always on point. Kat Von D’s liquid lipstick in Lolita is absolutely everything, but NYX Cosmetics has a good dupe if you’re on a budget and don’t want to splurge on the ’90s-inspired trend.

I am a 22-year-old coffee and tea enthusiast who appreciates rainy mornings and beagle puppies. Sunday is my favorite day of the week. I’m obsessed with all things social media and Madonna is my spirit animal. I’m always game for sushi dates and I love a good matte lipstick. Young the Giant is one of my favorite bands. I’ve seen every season of the Real Housewives franchise at least twice. The unicorn and champagne emojis give me life. I can’t wait to graduate so that I have my grown-up job and dress business casual for work. In my spare time you can find me cuddling with my cats and writing articles for CollegeFashionista.
