STYLE GURU BIO: Kelia Williams

What’s up, guys? My name is Kelia (kuh-lee-uh) but most people just call me “Lia”. I am a fashion merchandising and design student from Manhattan, New York and I am a sophomore at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. If you ever see me around campus I am either scrolling through my social media feed, zoned out with my headphones in, or commenting on whatever’s currently trending on Twitter…because there is always something happening on Twitter.

I have always had an interest in fashion, but it took me a long time to understand and be able to express it. Music was always my first love and main focus for most of my life but seeing artists like Beyoncé, Solange, and A$AP Rocky helped me bridge the gap that I once placed between fashion and music. I like to think of my style as “menswear with a feminine twist.” Because even though I often switch the way I dress I usually always take a man’s approach to my outfit with something fairly simplistic and then add shoes or accessories to girl it up and add my own swag to it.

I love expressing myself through clothing. Whether I’m in a Yeezus T-shirt or a vintage Guess T-shirt, you can always tell something about me from my outfit. For instance, in this look I chose a nude colored mock neck and paired it with a longline bomber and a classic pair of Stan Smiths. The turtleneck was giving me a ’90s vibe so I paired it with these gold frames and my olive jacket has always been a favorite of mine. I think that it gives the look more of a contemporary and modern feel in this look.

As a college girl on a budget I’m always searching for a dope piece at a doper price, whether that be on apps like Depop or bidding sites like eBay. I hope to bring a more urban feel to the site and share tips to style without killing your pockets. I’m thankful for getting the opportunity to show you guys my style as your spring 2017 Style Guru and I look forward to the year to come!
