STYLE GURU BIO: Jen Dickhaut

Jen here! I’m very excited to join the CollegeFashionista team this Spring 2015 semester. I thought this would be an amazing opportunity for me to further my fashion career—and it’s fun!

A little bit about myself: I am 20 years old and a total Fashionista! I am a junior Fashion Merchandising student at Kent State University in Cleveland, OH. I am minoring in business and very much enjoy doing retail math. I grew up in Cincinnati, OH and have loved fashion ever since I could dress myself. I’ve been a dancer for all of my life and dance on a hip hop dance team at Kent called the Golden Reflections. I’ve always been a huge girly girl with a weak spot for glitter and glam. One of my favorite glam pieces for the season is a statement necklace. I love my gold and gem necklace from BaubleBar. An over the top necklace makes any outfit!

I find most of my style inspiration from retail store windows, friends and magazines. My staple piece is and has always been a great pair of jeans. I feel very comfortable in jeans and believe they go with everything! In my photo I am sporting Express black denim—my favorite denim brand. I am also a strong believer in a fabulous handbag. I’ve had this motto beaten into my head since the age of 18 when I worked for the fabulous company, Michael Kors, in Cincinnati, and at my most recent New York City internship with Rebecca Minkoff. My favorite handbag right now is my ultraviolet Jules satchel by Rebecca Minkoff. It’s such a powerful color for this winter season. Working for both of these handbag designers has made me even more inspired to make it in the fashion industry.

I truly believe that accessories make an outfit, although I do have an overflowing closet full of clothes. Sneakers are such a smart choice for living in the big city. My go-to pair right now is a black leather high-top with gold stud detailing by Rebecca Minkoff.
My plan after college is to move to New York City right away. I would love to work for a handbag designer. I am interested in wholesale, buying, merchandising and PR. Completing my most recent internship at Rebecca Minkoff has made me very aware that I must work extremely hard at my first job to work up in a company. I am inspired more than ever to become more knowledgeable about the industry and work extra hard to land a job after college!

I’m excited to start my position with CollegeFashionista. I believe it will make me a better fashion student at Kent State!
