STYLE GURU BIO: Jasmin Briggs

Hello to all my fashion lovers out there! My name is Jasmin Briggs, and this semester I will be entering my senior year at Old Dominion University (ODU). I’m currently majoring in communications with a concentration in public relations and double minoring in fashion merchandising and marketing. Every time I think about graduation, I get scared and excited at the same time. On the one hand, I’m ready to strike out on my own and establish myself. On the other hand, the fear settles in when I realize I won’t be able to use my parents as a support system anymore. I remember my freshman move-in day just like it was yesterday, and now I’ll be walking across the stage in May.

I joined the CollegeFashionista team this past summer, and it was such a great experience that I had to come back! Over the summer, I reported on college style in the DC area, but this semester you’ll get to see ODU style at its finest. Participating in this internship made me realize I want to establish a fashion empire that combines apparel and media. In fashion, we assume that you can only pick one career, but it’s okay to go against the rules and do your own thing.

This season, I’ve been loving the bohemian chic look, so I thought I’d show you all how I channel that style in my outfit above. I wore a floral kimono that I purchased at H&M the summer before my freshman year of college, and it has yet to go out of style. Here’s a piece of advice: when buying clothes, try to anticipate whether or not it will be in style in the next few years. You’ll save loads of money! I paired the kimono with a black strapless jumpsuit that I got from Nordstrom Rack. This jumpsuit is one of my favorite closet essentials. You can wear it from season to season, and it’s effortlessly chic. The black sandals I’m wearing have been very popular this season. Everyone has been rockin’ the sandals with the kitten heel. I purchased my black cross-body bag from the thrift store this past summer, and it was my first time going! I wore this bag practically every day over the summer. Lastly, I topped my look off with a burgundy matte lip and a DIY wrap-around choker that I made out of shoe string.

I loved putting this look together—and you could even wear it for back to school if you’re extra like me! I’ll leave you with a quote from legendary fashion designer Coco Chanel, “Everyday is a fashion show and the world is your runway.”
