STYLE GURU BIO: Hannah Penley

Hey there, Fashionistas!

My name is Hannah Penley and I am a fashion and textile management major with a minor in business administration at North Carolina State University. I was born and raised in Mooresville, North Carolina, which is situated around the beautiful Lake Norman. Growing up I would spend my summers out on the lake, camping and working at my local boutique. I’ve loved living in the same house my whole life, but I am ready to graduate and explore this beautiful world we are blessed to live in.

Fashion has always been an interest of mine, starting at age six, when I would carry around a booklet of different outfit sketches with me everywhere I went. Now I am studying the merchandising and marketing side of the fashion industry and I am intrigued by the multiple aspects that a company has to master in order to be successful. My dream is to open up my own clothing boutique one day that supports companies who donate proceeds to numerous charities and special causes. I want to see everything I do have a purpose and everything that I work hard for better the world around me.

What I love the most about fashion is that you can figure out someones personality without them having to speak. Style to me is a form of art and it can be unique and showcased as completely original. I believe that my personal style is closest to boho chic. Booties and rompers are my best friends and I am known for always wearing neutral, dark colors. I would prefer to have pops of color in my accessories and lipstick rather than wearing a full dress of pink. I am constantly trying new styles and buying new staple pieces to find out what works best for me. As cliché as it sounds, I truly do believe that the best accessory to own is a smile.

I am currently living in Raleigh, North Carolina in a sorority house (GO CHI O!) and I absolutely love it. I truly witness first hand the amount of diversity that is popular in fashion styles right now, for not one girl in the house dresses like another.

Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina and its downtown night life, scenic beauty and unique culture sure lives up to expectations. I love everything about Raleigh and what it represents. The city is constantly emerging and growing, but at the same time it keeps true to its roots by having such important landmarks and history. I am excited to tour the city to find the best trendsetters around campus and broadcast their styles for everyone to see. I believe that every person’s style, no matter how unique, is worth sharing because it shows how diverse and interesting our population is at this time. I like to always remind people to stay true to who they are and for what they stand for.
