Hey there! My name is Haley Kim, and I’m a freshman Marketing and Magazine Journalism dual major at Syracuse University. I’m an avid reader, nail polish junkie and, of course, fashion lover. I’m super excited to blend two of my interests, writing and fashion, as a Style Guru.

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved clothes. I spent hours styling outfits for my dolls, doodling figures and reading fashion magazines. Yet while I was a major experimenter at home, what I actually wore out in the world wasn’t quite the same; for a long time, my only fashion rule was to be comfortable. That all changed in high school, though, when I began challenging myself to develop my personal style. Now, I’m proud of my closet, which I would describe as equal parts feminine and polished with a lot of florals and pops of bold color.

I have a lot of solid and simple pieces, and I like to keep my outfits pretty classy—you won’t find me wearing crop tops or super short shorts. While I admire the girls who can rock those trends, I’m much more comfortable with a sweater, cute skirt and tights. But I also don’t like to be boring, so I usually throw in one or two eye-catching pieces, whether it is one of my signature scarves, a pair of zany socks or patterned pants (like what I’m wearing here!).

Besides my love for fashion, I’m also passionate about books and television (I’m a huge nerd), cupcakes and traveling. I love to experience new places; I’m originally from northern California, so moving to central New York for college has been a huge transition, but one I’ve really enjoyed so far. I’m hoping to study abroad in a few years, hopefully in London!

But, enough about me—my job as a Style Guru is to keep you up to date on trends from ‘Cuse’s most fashion-forward. While Syracuse may be known for the cold and the snow, this just means students have to be a little more creative. I’ll be reporting on the Fashionista/os who bring both the style and functionality; so stay tuned!
