STYLE GURU BIO: Gina Nuyen

January 20th, 2017 at 2:00am

Hi guys! My name is Gina Nuyen and I am a sophomore at Penn State. I’m majoring in marketing and sociology with a minor in French. I have had a passion for fashion ever since I was three years old. During the holiday season as a child, my eyes lit up at the idea of new clothes, not new toys. A purple pea coat and red corduroy pants were some of my childhood staples. Even in third grade, I was already trashing my room daily to pick out the perfect outfit for school.

Fashion is the ultimate expression of self, and for me, fashion gives me confidence. I know that even on my worst days, as long as I’m dressed well, I can get through it. Most people who meet me know that I love to dress up and look nice 24/7, but fashion does not have to mean wearing seemingly uncomfortable clothes. Someone’s personal style could include a sweatshirt and joggers on the daily, and that would still count as fashion in my eyes. Fashion is whatever gives you confidence, no matter what it is you’re wearing. It is the most public way to represent who we are as people. I love walking around campus and seeing how people pair their clothes, and everything from the simple to the sophisticated inspires me.

I have been recently loving the boots and sweater trend, and I’m also obsessed with mustard. Although it is way too chilly at my university to wear this outfit on the regular, I braved the winter and gave up warmth for a stylish look. I paired my mustard turtleneck sweater dress from Forever 21 with my black boots and knee high socks. I added a simple long necklace and a matching crossbody satchel bag to complete the look. Because the dress is somewhat short, I added shorts underneath for extra security (and warmth). Overall, the look was comfortable and casual. It is perfect for a coffee date or an afternoon brunch, and it was super easy to throw on. I wish it was sweater season all the time.

I hope all of you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it! I can’t wait to go on the CollegeFashionista journey and share what inspires me, in hopes that it will inspire you as well! Follow me on Instagram to see all my upcoming posts!
