As Rachel Zoe said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” Sometimes style can make a larger statement about who you are and where you came from than any spoken words. Style is a powerful statement, and what better way to show individuals style than through CollegeFashinista?
Hi Fashionistas! My name is Gillian Chan I grew up mostly in Brooklyn, New York and I am currently a sophomore at Dickinson College. As a Style Guru, I will do my best to report all the unique styles from Dickinson’s campus.
I am currently a psychology major and absolutely love talking and getting to know people and their personal style. I am constantly influenced by other people’s style wherever I go. Growing up, my family moved around a lot because of my parents jobs, so I had the amazing opportunity to live in different cities including San Francisco, Chicago, Hong Kong, London and Brooklyn! So I would say my current style is influenced a little by each of these places.
I have always been drawn to bright colors, bold prints, and sparkle, lots of sparkle. So it no surprises some of my style icons growing up included: The Spice girls, Britney Spears, TLC and movies like Clueless. With all of this being said, I do believe everyone needs staple items in their closet, whether that is a classic LBD or a cool denim jacket.
I would also say I tend to dress with my mood. One day I could dress in pink, sparkles and jelly shoes and the next day I could rock a dark lip while wearing all-black. It is hard to pinpoint exactly what my style is because it varies day-to-day, but one thing I can definitely say is that it’s never boring!
I am super excited to be a Style Guru and share with you all some funky outfits. Hope all you Fashionistas have an exciting semester!
