STYLE GURU BIO: Erika Borst

Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Erika Borst, and this is my third semester writing for CollegeFashionista in my junior year of college. This past fall, I studied remotely and interned in New York City, which was such an incredible experience. This spring I’ll be back on campus at Coastal Carolina and I can’t wait to show you all our collegiate Coastal style.

CollegeFashionista has been the first big step I’ve taken in the direction of pursuing my career in fashion and marketing, and working with this team especially has given me such joy and so many opportunities. In addition to the monthly postings I’ve added to my page here, I’ve also been able to participate in special events, brand partnerships and online features with my fellow Style Gurus.

My personal style has evolved a ton throughout 2015. Transitioning through four separate climates and dress codes, the beach, the mountains, the suburbs, and the city, I’ve learned a lot about what I love to wear. The first, is black. Always black. There truly is nothing more fun, flattering, edgy or cool than black. Such as this perfect vegan leather mini from Free People.

Second, I love to wear whats trending now but only to a certain extent. As a college student, I’m on an incredibly limited budget, which means I have to invest wisely. The ’90s ’70s are huge right now, and I’m really digging how this (similar) choker/ bolo necklace creates a trend blend (also from Free People). These chunky-heeled Sam Edelman booties also give off that cool, edgy ’90s vibe.

Third, I’ve learned that less is more. I know this sounds incredibly cliché, but it is so true for me. I’ve moved around and traveled so much this year, and through this I’ve discovered how refreshing and easy it is to live without a lot of stuff. Investing in pieces you love and can wear for years is the only way to go. That being said, leather and denim jackets, booties and basic white tees will always be in style.

Thank you all for taking the time to follow my CollegeFashionista experience so far! Be sure to follow along on social media for post updates and #RAD brand partnerships. I can’t wait to show you what’s in store!
