STYLE GURU BIO: Emily Abramovici

Hey Fashionistas/os! My name is Emily Abramovici (pronounced Ah-bra-mo-vich) and I am currently a freshman at Tulane University. Right now I am undeclared in the business school but I am hoping to work in the fashion industry in the future. This will be my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I could not be more excited!

I’m not sure specifically when my addiction to fashion began, however, I do recall my obsession growing soon after watching The Devil Wears Prada. After seeing that film about 20 times I promised myself I would pursue a career in the fashion industry and strive to be the next Miranda Priestly (a nicer version, of course). Aside from the movies, I noticed my interest in fashion developing quickly at museums. When I was younger, my parents would often drag my brother and me to various museums in New York City where I would find myself entranced not by the exhibited artwork, but by the fashion of individuals around me. The way one woman wore an unusual pair of patterned pants or an ’80s sweater was far more captivating to me than many of the paintings on the walls (which I did learn to appreciate eventually).

Being that my style changes on the daily, it is hard for me to identify with one specific look. I can go from one day dressing girly in a floral dress to the next day sporting a grungy look while wearing a leather jacket and black skinny jeans.  Moreover, I tend to harbor the theme of simplicity. Although I’ll sometimes be seen wearing patterns, I almost always lean towards solid colors. To me, solids are clean cut and look exceptional on just about everybody.

Despite the fact that I have only lived in New Orleans for four short months, I have already fallen in love with the city. Of the thousands of festivals held in the city each year, it’s simply impossible to be bored. This spring semester I look forward to experiencing my very first Jazzfest, Mardi Gras and Crawfest! I am eager to deepen my exploration into the uniquely creative energy of New Orleans while keeping you guys updated along the way!

For your weekly fashion fix, check back with me every Wednesday! I look forward to sharing all of the unique styles I come across on Tulane’s campus.
