STYLE GURU BIO: Carmen Olivero

My name is Carmen Olivero, and I’m an international student from Venezuela. Ever since I was a little girl, I always enjoyed putting outfits together and trying new styles. Being stylish has always been very important for me. I love looking good and I admire people who take pride in the way that they dress and act. For me, being stylish is a way of life but I never thought that one day I would have the opportunity to show other like-minded Fashionistas a bit of my own style. Being able to show people my fashion perspective makes me so excited, I hope you enjoy!

Having grown up in Venezuela, I am inspired by a fellow Venezuelan and one of the most iconic and prestigious women in fashion: Carolina Herrera. Ever since I can remember, she has been a huge inspiration for my outfits and styles. Herrera is known for saying, “Money doesn’t buy elegance. You can take an inexpensive sheath, add a pretty scarf, gray shoes and a wonderful bag, and it will always be elegant.” For me the most important bit of advice is to always carry your own style and your own flair of elegance. Being unique through style of dress is a beautiful way to express your mind as a piece of art. Every day I take time to pick out clothing that I like because it is form of expression to the world a small piece of myself. I admire people who dress to express rather than those who dress to impress.

Currently, I’ve been obsessed with That ’70s Show and it has brought out a bohemian side of fashion in a lot of my outfits. You might find me on the streets wearing my bell bottom pants or my high-waist trousers, harboring my inner ’70s disco chick.

I urge everyone to always follow your instinct and try new things while being true to your style. Don’t be afraid to experiment to find your style and to know what looks best on you for your mood. Don’t forget to dress for yourself. And remember, dress to express not to impress.
