STYLE GURU BIO: Brookelynn Weaver

Hi Fashionista/os! I’m back for another semester! Last fall was the beginning of my sophomore year at Kent State University in Ohio and my first semester with College Fashionista. I am a fashion merchandising major with a recently declared minor in textiles. I hope to one day have a career working with formal/bridal wear. I’ve always been intrigued by the intricate details and textures of these gowns, and when I was 17 I decided that I wanted to pursue an education in fashion. This led me to leave my family, friends, and home in Nashville, Tennessee, and move up north. Forcing myself out of my comfort zone brought about a wave of self-realization and confidence, and I could not be more optimistic about my choices and my future.

Aside from schoolwork, most of my time is consumed by driving around looking for new thrift stores, traveling the country via planes and Greyhound buses with my best friends, and lots and lots of Spotify playlists. Each of my favorite memories include a variation of these activities. I’m a strong believer in living in the moment and enjoying the freedom and excitement that comes with being a college student. My outlook on life has a strong impact on my personal style and is often reflected through what I wear. I’m drawn to ragged vintage t-shirts, loosely fitted mom jeans, and oversized jackets; that is my go-to look. I spent years trying to fit into a certain mold that was not meant for me, so being able to now embrace my individuality is my most valued trait. This particular outfit embodies comfort, something I aim to do every time I get dressed no matter what. A simple, tight top with flared bottoms, and a blanket cardigan is perfect for a long day of classes or for going out to a fancy dinner. As you can tell, versatility is key for me.

Accompanying my free-spirited attitude and love for fashion is my passion for sustainability. I love finding new ways to incorporate eco-friendly practices into my daily routine and spreading my knowledge with others. Being a fashion major comes with a heavy moral responsibility for me; I want to shed light on the negative social and environmental impact the fashion industry has had in years past and do my part in reversing the damage. I love that College Fashionista provides me with a platform to speak about these issues while also sharing the incredible fashion I find around my campus, and I cannot wait to spend another semester with you all!
