STYLE GURU BIO: Ashley Martin

Hello Fashionistas/os, My name is Ashley Martin; I am currently studying fashion business and journalism at Columbia College of Chicago. This will be my third semester interning with CollegeFashionista, and my first summer semester. I am beyond excited to have this opportunity once again to showcase summer fashion in Chicago!

I love every aspect of the fashion industry, however, fashion journalism is by far by favorite (besides maybe shopping of course). After graduating I plan of running a fashion blog or writing for a fashion magazine—some of my favorites include: Man Repeller, The Blonde Salad, NYLON Magazine and I-D Magazine.

Some trends I am already forecasting a serious love for this summer are lightweight silk bomber jackets. I cannot seem to get enough of them. They can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. They can be found with intricate floral embroidery or with cute short sayings. Another trend that has my full support is layering several necklaces together; they can change any outfit instantly adorable. You can add or subtract the number of necklaces to best fit your style. As I was last semester, I am really looking forward to what this season of street fashion has to show for the concept of androgyny. A lot of brands have recently started incorporating gender neutral and gender bending designs into their lines, which I am interested in seeing in street fashion.

I hope through writing for CollegeFashionista I am able to uncover some of these trends on the street and showcase the wonderful sense of style fellow college students have while inspiring others to expand their personal style.

My individual style is a collection of inspiration I have gathered through films, traveling, exploring cultures and, of course, studying what appears on the runway every season. Lately, I have been getting a lot of inspiration for outfits from spending countless hours scrolling through fashion bloggers on Instagram. There is no way I could easily describe my style because it is ever evolving and transforming. I love that fashion allows me to express who I am while also allowing me to step out side of that and try new styles for myself. Nothing makes me happier than encouraging people to step out side of their comfort zone and try something new.
