STYLE GURU BIO: Anya Haber

Hello fellow fashion enthusiasts/bored internet surfers! I am extremely proud to join the CollegeFashionista team as a Style Guru! This is the first of hopefully many more semesters with CollegeFashionista! I’m currently a student at Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta studying fashion with a minor in business. Before that, I was studying in Prague, Czech Republic for a few years.

One of the best things about attending an art school is that you are constantly surrounded by individuals with unique styles that tend to tell a story of who they are. As a Style Guru, one of my hopes is to give these students an outlet to express a part of themselves. This isn’t just an opportunity to photograph fabulous clothing, but also to explore the history of the pieces and what they reveal and mean to the wearer. I consider this a chance to learn what inspires a person to put on a specific pieces of clothing.

I wouldn’t say my personal style fits into any one category; I love one-of-a-kind vintage finds as well as staple brands. However, I do prefer supporting small businesses and up-and-coming designers. I strongly feel that fashion is art- the more experimental and eccentric, the better! My favorite designers are Iris van Herpen, Ying Gao, Chromat, Céline and Prada. I’m especially excited about the current trend of fashion that combines science and technology with design, whether it’s 3-D printed garments or clothing that physically reacts to sound. I consider this to be an important field for the future of fashion as well as something I’d like to focus on as a designer!

My outfit above is something I might wear on any given day. What I love about this look is how the simple, all-black ensemble contrasts with the quirky, colorful accessories. My outfit features an Elizabeth & James blazer, American Apparel high-waisted pants, a Lazy Oaf crop top, a vintage phone purse and handmade furry peep-toe booties made by LASSKAA. I topped it off with thrift store sunglasses as well as a bold red lip.
