STYLE GURU BIO: Allie Barke

May 29th, 2015 at 2:10am

Hello fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Allie Barke and I’m a sophomore at DePaul University, majoring in Business Administration.

In addition to being a student, I keep busy running my own blog Allie’s Fashion Alley, working as a brand ambassador for StyleSpotter and writing freelance.

I am California native, but a Chicago girl at heart, although I think my style still has a little bit of that laid-back west coast vibe. Overall, my style is very feminine. I love wearing things that confuse my boyfriend such as skorts, overalls and Birkenstocks.

I’ve discovered that my day is directly affected by what I’m wearing. If I look good, I feel good. Fashion is so important because it’s a form of self-expression that’s unavoidable. It shows the world who you are and who you want to be. As Coco Chanel said, “Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.”

The best style tip I can share is to remember that shoes are the most important part of any outfit. Wearing the right shoes is essential to looking chic, so splurge on them. I would have a closet full of Louboutins if I had a penny for every time I saw someone suffering from the “cute outfit ruined by bad shoes” epidemic. More often than not, it’s shoes that distinguish fashion editors from fashion faux-pas.

I can’t wait to share more style advice with you as I snap photos of DePaul’s Fashionistas/os! Don’t forget to check back with me every Friday!
