STYLE GURU BIO: Aamina Haykal

Hello Fashionista/os! My name is Aamina Haykal and I am a senior at Columbia College Chicago. I’m currently studying fashion design with a minor in fashion business. This is my fourth and final semester as a Style Guru and it has been an incredible journey. I feel like I have come so far and learned so much from this experience. Being a Style Guru is amazing because I love that I get to combine writing, fashion, and photography all in one. I can’t wait for what’s in store this semester!

A little bit about me, I am completing my last semester at Columbia College Chicago. It is a phenomenal art school abundant with talented people. You can never be bored in Chicago because there is always something to do! In my free time I enjoy hanging out with friends, refining my drawing skills, as well as keeping up to date with fashion and social media. My goal in life is to have my own fashion label when I graduate. I can not see myself as anything but a fashion designer because I have known this is what I wanted to do since I was seven.

My personal style can be described as classic chic. I love to wear timeless pieces that never go out of style mixed with trendy clothes. This mix of old and new keeps my wardrobe versatile. Many items in my closet can convert from one look to another with a quick switch of accessories. I like clothes that are simple but have interesting details that really make you say “wow.” I like to be comfortable and stylish too.

It may be cold out, but I won’t let the weather sacrifice my style. I am in love with my down and feather BCBG coat with faux fur trim. It can be worn as a vest or a coat, which is a major plus because I love versatility. Underneath this coat is my new favorite black bodysuit. It is made of a ribbed velvet and it’s so comfortable and effortless. It comes with a choker attached, a revival of the early 2000s trend. This off-the-shoulder top is so trendy. I paired it with high waisted blue jeans, a must-have fave for all Fashionistas! With just the right amount of peep toe these tan block heels are my go-to for a night out. The thick heel makes these shoes really comfy. I kept my jewelry simple wearing my class ring (which I never go without) and gold hoop earrings.

When you look your best and put yourself out there no one can stop you. Let your style speak for you. A Style Guru embodies all of these things. I plan to carry this attitude with me long after graduation. Writing for my final semester as a Style Guru is bittersweet, but I am so happy to be a part of this team!
