STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Outdoorsy, Utilitarian and Subtle Rebel

March 14th, 2016 at 2:00am

This Fashionista’s style is inspired by Oregon’s beautiful green nature, comfort and her bold spontaneous spirit. This west coast style can be described as both outdoorsy and utilitarian with a subtle hint of rebellion.

When choosing her outfit, this Fashionista often gravitates towards hats, flannels and comfortable shoes. She loves her Patagonia hat for hiking and messy hair days; the colors coordinate with the hues in her H&M flannel shirt that she found during one of her late night adventures. She recommends looking at thrift stores to get good flannels for good prices. For colder days, she would add a thermal vest. She loves flowy tops and stretchy pants because they don’t limit how much you can eat (even though living on a college budget certainly does). This top can be worn casually to class, like in this outfit, or can be dressed up with a nice skirt and jacket. Underneath, she is wearing a gray bralette for added comfort and a subtle style addition. These army pants from Banana Republic are very versatile and add a complexity to the outfit that would not be achieved if she was simply wearing jeans.  Her white Converse sneakers are one of her go-to  pairs of shoes because they are good for walking and go with almost anything.

As far as her personal styling goes, she has five earrings and three tattoos she spontaneously got while vacationing in Hawaii. Her Seraphin Kelly glasses are needed for reading, but are also very stylish and are a great accessory to her outdoorsy outfits. Her hair is undercut and often has intricate designs detailed in. When dressing up she opts for bold winged eyeliner and bronze eyeshadows.

You can recreate this look with a secondhand flannel and matching hat, classy glasses and a pair of army green pants.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “If you see something cute abandoned on the sidewalk, don’t be above picking it up, washing it three times and wearing it!”
