STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Majoring in Minimal

We’ve seen every kind of in-your-face detail in 2015, from lace-up bodysuits to pixelated graphics, from folk embroidery to raw hemlines and from button-up denim skirts to all-over fringe. With a new year among us, a handful of fresh looks have begun to hit the streets, but one has already been set in motion: the minimalist trend. We all know a minimalistic Fashionista/o—she styles herself effortlessly, pairing white sneakers with simple high-waisted jeans and a chic crop top. She accessorizes minimally, but her adornments are uncomplicated and cool.

This Fashionista is no different, vamping up her plain black high-waisted skinny jeans with a baby pink turtleneck that matched her perfectly shaped nails. The soft hue itself closely resembles one of Pantone’s killer colors of the year for 2016, rose quartz, proving this Fashionista is ahead of the game. She chose a delicate necklace for her jewelry of the day, and her classic adidas superstars show she is ready to walk confidently into 2016.

How does one attempt this contemporary trend? The minimalist look is actually quite easy to try out even though its followers may look intimidatingly austere. Thinking about giving it a shot? Grab a pair of high-waisted skinnies or, if you’re feeling daring, a fashionable denim skirt; throw on a simple crop top and step into some all-white sneakers. To accessorize, the gentler, the better. I recommend a dainty necklace, a few stacked rings or anything subtly eye-catching that does not take away from the ease that defines the trend.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid to try the unknown; live in the present.”
