STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Layer It Up

March 16th, 2016 at 2:10am

It’s that time of year again. The snow is melting, birds are chirping and the sun is finally starting to make an appearance. As amazing as it is to be transitioning into warmer weather, it can be tricky to work with when it comes to fashion. One minute you think an oversized sweater and boots are a good idea, and the next your sweating up a storm as soon as the sun comes out. On the other hand, it still is much too chilly for T-shirts and sandals, so layers are going to be your best friend during this time of year. Layers can help tailor an outfit to the temperature changes throughout they day and add dimension, as well as style, to any look.

This lovely Fashionista’s layers are the perfect example. She is bringing it back to basics, wearing a classic white T-shirt, which she paired with dark-wash skinnies. You can’t go wrong with jeans; they’re a staple that can be worn throughout the year, and styled in an infinite amount of ways. They are also ideal for that in-between weather, which is so common throughout springtime. When putting together a layered outfit, starting out with simple pieces and building on to them is a great way to create a successful look.

Over her T-shirt, this Fashionista is layering with a leather jacket, which adds warmth to her outfit while simultaneously dressing it up and adding an edge. Lighter jackets are perfect for transitional weather because they add a lot to an outfit while still being easy to put away and put back on.

This Fashionista is finishing her look off with a pair of black wedge booties and a black and white plaid blanket scarf. Not only does this scarf add interest to her look, but blanket scarves are famous for being as cozy as a—you guessed it—blanket. They are super large so they give you more coverage, but are still compact enough to stick in your bag if it gets too toasty outside. Need an extra layer but don’t want to drag a winter jacket around with you all day? Go with a blanket scarf and you will be good to go!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Pairing simple pieces with a pattern or statement necklace is a fool proof way to find a cute outfit. Also, neutrals work with everything and I love them!”
