STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Dressed Up or Down in Denim

August 24th, 2015 at 2:05am

Fifteen years ago, Britney Spears wore her now famous denim dress alongside Justin Timberlake’s denim tuxedo to MTV’s Video Music Awards. Although the unusual dress has been mocked for the past decade, denim dresses are beginning to be seen on many different stylish celebrities. Recently Katy Perry, Rihanna and Katie Holmes, just to name a few, have been spotted wearing denim dresses both on the street and on the red carpet. Denim has been a staple in Americans’ wardrobes for centuries; many Fashionistas own at least one pair of jeans and a denim jacket as a basic, necessary part of their wardrobe. However, denim dresses are a new trend that’s perfect for use throughout the whole year as well. Vogue’s Kelly Connor explains, “It’s the perfect item to buy now, since it’s denim (for the most part), you don’t have to commit to a season.” Think of a denim dress just as you would think of a pair of jeans: it can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the weather or your mood.

This Fashionista chose to rock the denim dress trend in a more casual way. She wore a cute chambray dress that features long flutter sleeves with embroidered white stripes. She then dressed down her outfit by wearing a pair of fabulous Valentino Rockstud sneakers. She finished her look with a large white statement necklace and chic Ralph Laruen sunglasses.

I’m loving this new trend and how easy it is to showcase your own personal style with it. After all, that’s what fashion is really all about. Consider adding a versatile denim dress to your closet just in time for fall!
