STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Athleisure Authority

January 22nd, 2016 at 2:10am

Ask anyone what their favorite breakout trend of 2015 was, and I can all but guarantee many will nominate athleisure as their stylish selection of the year. If my casual speculation isn’t enough proof, Merriam-Webster is even adding “athleisure” to its updated 2016 dictionary. Athleisure’s popularity makes sense, after all. What’s not to love? Newly updated in fashion-forward colors, utilitarian sneakers in retro silhouettes offer form and function alike, and when they’re paired with brightly patterned, breathable athletic separates—well, it’s basically a match made in heaven for the modern day girl on the go. This Fashionista clearly agrees, stepping up her athleisure game with some feminine layering and classy styling that make this casual outfit serious style goals (no sports pun intended).

Of course, the pivotal element of any athleisure ensemble is awesome activewear. This Fashionista displays carefully coordinated sportswear in shades of maroon, black and navy. Her classic New Balance 574 running shoes pair perfectly with her adidas’ workout tights, while the fan-favorite black Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket and sleek Under Armour cap are certain to keep her cozy in our breezy California winter.

This sartorially savvy student doesn’t stop there, though. She brings in a soigné twist with the addition of the inimitable Free People Voile and Lace Trapeze Slip, its floaty femininity a blackberry dream against the striped backdrop of a navy crewneck. Armed with a chic Coach cross-body clutch, this Fashionista looks effortlessly cool, calm and confident, whether she’s headed to the gym or the nearest café.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Think of your outfit as the canvas for your personal aesthetic. Always dress comfortably and consider the weather, but remember to be creative and don’t be afraid to mix it up every now and then.”
